“Sometimes you need a room full of strangers to make you feel less alone.”
You’re in a dark and dingy nightclub. You’re completely enveloped in sound. It doesn’t matter that you went to the club on your own. It’s a place to hide, a place dark enough to make yourself feel unknown.
This is the vibe of ‘A Place To Hide’, the latest release on Jack Said What. It’s a collaboration between Bath-based DJ/producer Martin Badder and spoken word vocalist Antony Szmierek, which came about after Martin heard Antony’s voice and reached out.
Martin wrote the moody instrumental, and quickly got back the words of the song from Antony to complete the track. “The narrative works perfectly for me, echoing the feeling of being on your own in a club and having that perfect moment where the world fades away, and you’re just lost in the music,” Martin says.
The emotive, dreamy, deep and rolling house cut has shades of The Streets, and comes with a Serge Santiago remix and a Sound Klash dub.
Martin Badder has released on highly respected labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Repopulate Mars, Renaissance, Nervous Records, Strictly Rhythm, Toolroom, DFTD and more. Antony Szmierek has been called ‘the Manc Mike Skinner’ and is a successful indie hip-hop artist in his own right.
